President's Charity 2017-18

Ocean Ward - Southampton Paediatric Cardiology

During 2017-18 while George Reid was President of West Surrey Circle, he selected the Ocean Ward at Southampton General Hospital as his charity.

The Ocean Ward specialises in treating children with cardiac problems. Children often have to stay in hospital for extended periods which can be a stressful time for children and parents alike. The ward aims to provide care and facilities to ease the stay for all concerned.  George Reid told the West Surrey Circle about Leo, a young boy born with cardiac problems. During Leo’s first year, he spent several weeks on the Ocean ward where he underwent open heart surgery on two occasions.  Leo is due to have further surgery within the next two years.

West Surrey Circle raised £2,255 for the Ocean Ward. George Reid and Leo went to the Ocean Ward to present a cheque to Emma Cooper, head of fund raising. As the picture shows, Leo was concerned that the funds would arrive safely so he undertook to provide a police escort!
